Community Development & Construction Standards

What We Do

Development inside city limits is governed by the Hopkins County Comprehensive Plan, International Building Code, Federal Floodplain Regulation, as well as city specific sign and historic district laws. Our purpose is to help your project navigate these requirements.

1. Idea

“What do you want to do and where do you want to do it?”

Once you have a preliminary plan ask questions to the development team to determine what the required planning documents will be and what permits you will need prior to the start of construction.

Major Development 5,000 sf+ of impervious surface  or any road or utility extension

Minor Development less than 5,000 sf of impervious surface and no utility extension

Changing site contours or laying gravel or pavement

Inter Departmental Construction

Any Activity within a Floodplain

Subdivision

Planned Unit Development

2. Planning Documents

Drawings of your site and buildings depending on the scale of the project may need to be designed and stamped by a licensed professional.

Planning Documents may also include construction schedules, methods of pollution control and details about material storage and equipment parked in the floodplain.
